innoMAYtion is a month-long initiative showcasing DC’s innovation ecosystem and how ideas from local entrepreneurs are reshaping the District.
Progress Updates:
October 2019: At the WeDC Futures Forum, attendees took part in all-day programming, networking, podcasts, pitch competitions and more, to learn global best-practices for cities to solve complex urban challenges, and what it takes to build a more equitable future with an inclusive economy, diverse and talented workforce, and dynamic communities across four tracks.
September 2019: The WeDC House popup at DC Startup Week sponsored a variety of panels with advice for startups, including building an inclusive culture at your company, nailing a pitch, and accessing capital.
June 2019: The WeDC House popup at Halcyon’s By the People Festival sponsored conversations on the future of food, transportation, and sports/entertainment in DC. View more details.
September 2018: In 2019, DMPED pivoted from InnoMAYtion as a one-month celebration to a yearlong strategy. The WeDC brand from DC’s SXSW activation was brought back to DC with a new focus on community building and sponsoring events throughout the year to highlight DC’s local innovation ecosystem and entrepreneurship. The inaugural, three-day WeDC Fest was held in September 2018 and featured 150 speakers who discussed everything from economic development and technology to health care and smart cities.
May 2018: Engaged hundreds of residents in dozens of InnoMAYtion events throughout the city and notched over 8 million social impressions in May.
May 2017: Engaged hundreds of residents in over 50 innoMAYtion events throughout the city and notched 12 million social media impressions in May, a 4.5 million increase from 2016.
