Maker space

Back to Initiatives

Assess how to support one or more Innovation Spaces and Marketplaces that incubate the local maker community and Made in DC businesses by providing space for work and sales as well as programming, drawing from best practices in other cities.

Progress Updates:

August 2019: Through the findings of the Innovation Space and Marketplace Report published in 2017, DMPED seeks to fund opportunities for creative entities to manufacture, produce, and retail their product. As a result, DMPED launched the Makersplace Marketplace Grant pilot to provide funding to qualified operators of new or existing spaces that combine access to production equipment and retail space.

July 2017: Published “Innovation Space and Marketplace Report: Developing a Makerspace in the District” report.  This report is one of the first steps necessary to plan and develop the Innovation Space and Marketplace.  The analysis in the report will help DMPED and other DC agencies develop a makerspace that will best meet the District’s goals and stakeholder needs.  Read the full report here.
