Advance the development of the impact economy by supporting external efforts to strengthen the local social enterprise and civic innovation ecosystem, hosting related conferences, and promoting DC as a hub of social enterprise beyond the Beltway (e.g. SOCAP).
Progress Updates:
February 2019: As a follow-up to SOCAP outreach, DMPED & WDCEP hosted a Social Impact Investor Panel as part of the West Coast trade mission. The goal was to promote DC as a leading city for the impact economy (e.g. social enterprises) and inclusive investing & innovation.
December 2018: WDCEP convened a Social Impact Executive Roundtable to discuss access to capital, needs of diverse founders, talent, and positioning DC as a great place for Social Impact enterprises.
October 2018: A delegation from DMPED & WDCEP attended SOCAP (Social Capital Markets) 2018 conference to develop relationships with impact investors and raise awareness of DC’s entrepreneurs.
June 2018: DMPED held meeting with prospective investors following the designation of DC’s Opportunity Zones, a new federal tax incentive that could be leveraged to increase impact investing. Learn more about DC’s Opportunity Zones here.
October 2017: DMPED attended SOCAP (Social Capital Markets) Conference and promoted DC as the capital of inclusive innovation.
